Rosemount Minnesota is located 15 miles south of the Twin Cities Metropolitan area and is just a 20 minute drive to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), Rosemount offers a great option for frequent travelers. The Rosemount MN township was established in 1856 and incorporated in 1972. It encompasses the old village of Rosemount and Pine Bend and has land area of nearly 36 square miles.

Rosemount is home of the University of Minnesota Outreach, Research and Education Park. Referred to as UMore Park, this 5,000 acre site provides a strong source of employment for the area. Rosemount’s UMore Park is a self-contained sustainable community with its own schools, library, churches, and retail. On one border is Dakota County Technical College and on the other border is Vermillion Highlands, a 2,822 acre research, recreation, and wildlife management area. 

Rosemount’s historic downtown area connects the community to its small town roots, providing a wide variety of community-oriented businesses. The Rosemount downtown area blends retail, professional services, civic and residential uses that attracts people of all ages. This diversity of Rosemount’s downtown area makes Rosemount ideal for people wanting big city amenities with small town attitude.

Rosemount’s economy combines industry, agriculture and agricultural research providing local residents places to work as well as reside. Housing options include single family homes, townhomes, condominiums, low-income housing and a senior citizen center.

Rosemounts leadership has preserved 302 beautiful acres of land for 23 parks.  Bordered by the scenic Mississippi River, Rosemount also contains 270 acres of the Spring Lake Regional Park Preserve. Rosemount's Community Center provides a variety of indoor recreation opportunities and meeting space, including an ice arena and gymnasium.

ROSEMOUNT EDUCATION

Education is a priority in Rosemount. Award-winning public and private schools provide both children and adults with superb educational opportunities.  A major portion of the city is part of Independent School District #196, which is one of the largest districts in the state. Twelve non-public schools also offer education or preschool through grade 12. Dakota County Technical College, one of the largest technical colleges in the state, is yet another source of education in Rosemount.

HOUSEHOLDS AND FAMILIES: From 2005-2007 there were 7,000 households in Rosemount city. The average household size was 2.8 people.

Families made up 79 percent of the households in Rosemount city. This figure includes both married-couple families (67 percent) and other families (12 percent). Nonfamily households made up 21 percent of all households in Rosemount city. Most of the nonfamily households were people living alone, but some were composed of people living in households in which no one was related to the householder.

EDUCATION: From 2005-2007, 96 percent of people 25 years and over had at least graduated from high school and 39 percent had a bachelor's degree or higher. Four percent were dropouts; they were not enrolled in school and had not graduated from high school.

The total school enrollment in Rosemount city was 6,100 from 2005-2007. Nursery school and kindergarten enrollment was 850 and elementary or high school enrollment was 4,100 children. College or graduate school enrollment was 1,200.

The likelihood of having a disability varied by age - from 13 percent of people 5 to 15 years old, to 6 percent of people 16 to 64 years old, and to 35 percent of those 65 and older.

OCCUPATIONS AND TYPE OF EMPLOYER: Among the most common occupations were: Management, professional, and related occupations, 42 percent; Sales and office occupations, 27 percent; Service occupations, 14 percent; Production, transportation, and material moving occupations, 9 percent; and Construction, extraction, maintenance and repair occupations, 7 percent. Eighty-two percent of the people employed were Private wage and salary workers; 14 percent was Federal, state, or local government workers; and 4 percent was Self-employed in own not incorporated business workers.

TRAVEL TO WORK: Eighty-three percent of Rosemount city workers drove to work alone from 2005-2007, 10 percent carpooled, 1 percent took public transportation, and 1 percent used other means. The remaining 4 percent worked at home. Among those who commuted to work, it took them on average 24.8 minutes to get to work.

INCOME: The median income of households in Rosemount city was $83,826. Ninety percent of the households received earnings and 13 percent received retirement income other than Social Security. Fourteen percent of the households received Social Security. The average income from Social Security was $15,185. These income sources are not mutually exclusive; that is, some households received income from more than one source.

POVERTY AND PARTICIPATION IN GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS: From 2005-2007, 3 percent of people were in poverty. Three percent of related children under 18 were below the poverty level, compared with 4 percent of people 65 years old and over. Two percent of all families and 11 percent of families with a female householder and no husband present had incomes below the poverty level.

POPULATION OF Rosemount city: From 2005-2007, Rosemount city had a total population of 20,000 - 9,600 (48 percent) females and 10,000 (52 percent) males. The median age was 34.9 years. Thirty-one percent of the population was under 18 years and 7 percent was 65 years and older.
